Encyclopedia Britannica
I used this resource because it provides great information on my topic, focusing on child psychology. It has great information on how data information is gathered for studies and on famous psychologists who have done lots of research on this specific subject one of which is Charles Darwin.

Biography
I used this resource because it explains more about Charles Darwin and his theories behind human development and his view on adaptation. Many researchers in the field of human development have fed off Darwin’s theory of natural selection.

Web MD
I used this resource because it is a well known source for its information on medicine, journalism, health communication and content creation about the latest health information. Since I want to be a nursing major, I will frequently use this site to check symptoms and to learn about different diseases. This slide show of child development greatly explains clearly what a child goes through during its first years.

::PRINT BOOKS::
1) I chose the book The Irreducible Needs of Children: What Every Child Must Have To Grow, Learn, and Flourish by T. Berry Brazelton. My reasoning behind choosing this book is because it has to do with the development of a child. It talks about what children need to be able to grow and learn correctly. This relates to my topic in many ways because it has to do with the physical and psychological factors of child development.
2) I chose the book The Role of the Father in Child Development by Michael E Lamb. My reasoning behind choosing this book is because I thought it sounded very interesting. My boyfriend grew up not knowing his father and it was very difficult for him. When I first saw this book I thought of him and wanted to know what the outcome would be if his father was in his life. This relates to my topic because it has to do with the psychological factor of child development and how parents play a role in children’s upbringing.
3) I chose the book Children with Disabilities: a Longitudinal Study of Child Development and Parent Well-Being by Penny Hauser-Cram, Robert M Hodapp, Aline Sayer, and Carole C Upshur. My reasoning behind choosing this book is because talks about children with disabilities and how they developed as a child. It is very interesting because normally most people talk about the normal way of developing as a child and this book focuses on children with disabilities and their struggles as well as the parents’ struggles. This relates to my topic because it involves physical as well as psychological and social factors that attributes to the development of a child with disabilities.
::PERIODICALS::
For all of my periodical searches, I used ProQuest through the Long Beach City College Library. When searching for periodicals that relate to my topic I searched under the Publications tab in ProQuest. I put within the search box, Child Development and a few choices came up. These are the ones that I felt worked the best with my topic.
1) Child Care, Health and Development were one of the periodicals I chose. Although their articles are not accessible for full text, but from reading a few of the abstract articles, it clearly relates to my topic. For example, an article within the periodical is titled Children Who Have Complex Health Needs: Parents’ Experiences of Their Child’s Education. It talks about how children have continuing health needs and their education opportunities won’t be as good as other children. This in fact effects the child’s development socially and psychologically.

2) Child Development was one of the periodicals I chose. From looking over the various articles, I can see that this periodical definitely relates to my topic. When looking at an article titled Aspects of Fetal Learning and Memory, it talks about how a fetus retains memory at 34 weeks old. This includes the psychological factor of my topic and it is very interesting as well. Although I cannot view the full text, the abstract text gives a great summary.

3) Infant and Child Development is one of the periodicals that I chose. From reviewing the articles, I am sure that this periodical clearly fits with my topic. The article that I looked at was Parenting and Child Behavior Problems: a Longitudinal Analysis of Non-Shared Environment. It is about twins during middle childhood and their negativity and behavior problems they experience. Also, it includes about how they grew developmentally to become this certain way. It closely relates to my topic socially and psychologically.

::WEBSITE RESOURCES::
1) The website that I chose is CDC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It has a great section referring to Child Development. It has great examples of positive parenting from the ages of 0 – 14 years old and they break it down by developmental bracket. Also, this website talks about the various complications that can happen to your child such as Tourette syndrome and ADHD. This website provides great value to my topic because it explains all of the factors of child development. Also, it is a reliable source because it is a government website I trust the nature of the information talked about.
2) The website that I chose is called Medline Plus. It is a government website so I trust the content provided on this webpage. It talks about the basics on child development and the anatomy and physiology that take place. Also, like the CDC website, they have conditions that are related to children’s health and a cool health check tools section where you can check the growth of your child.
